Judith Brandenburg, bandoneon

Judith Brandenburg, bandoneonist, pianist and composer, studied classical piano at the UdK Berlin and HfK Bremen, where she took her concert diploma. Later, she studied Argentine tango at the Conservatory in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with Karel Kraayenhof (bandoneon), Gustavo Beytelman (composition and arrangement) and Leo Vervelde (orquestra).

Having performed with many tango and world musicians in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, she founded La Bicicleta, Trio for modern Tango, in 2009 in order to express her own musical language. Invitations ranged from Argentina to Vietnam, and she will enjoy playing in a small jazz club as well as La Bicicleta's lunchtime concert at the Berliner Philharmonie.

Judith Brandenburg has composed and arranged music for theatre and film ("Mozart and Casanova", "Tango Zarrentino", recordings for Geoffrey Rush in "The book thief") and has played in numerous radio, television and CD recordings.

With La Bicicleta, she has produced two CDs presenting her own music.

She has published the "Tango of the Month", a monthly sheet music subscription for bandoneon and "Mein Bandobuch", a collection of her own bandoneon pieces for beginners.

In many workshops and in 2016 also at the UdK Berlin, she passes on her knowledge of tango music, encouraging everyone's personal approach to tango music with the qualities of their own instrument.
